FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

because they aren't american...
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:42 |

they arent reliable because morons dont know how to maintain them...a properly amintained merc or audi (esp the TDIS) will LONG outlast anything american
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:43 |

That's actually the WORST E class you could buy, in terms of reliability. Still, with decent maintenance they should be okay.
My friend has a 2001 ML430 his parents eventually gave to him (they are the original owners) and it has 170k miles and still going.

or Japanese :(

I have a friend who DDs a Jag XJ. go figure.

As someone who's family owns 3 German cars (Porsche 924, MercedesBenz 300TD, BMW 530iT), they are completely reliable if you maintain them. But if you don't maintain them, you may as well just hand the mechanic (or parts store) your wallet, because it can get expensive quick.

Yeah, but it's no match for Toyota/Lexus
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:46 |

I doubt that they would outlast an older truck.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:50 |

I would like to see a religiously serviced German car versus a who-gives-a-fuck truck. It would be an interesting comparison.

cool car collection. What generations are the wagons?
German cars require much more maintenance than Japanese cars, and even regular parts are 3x the price for no reason. Window switches are not, and should not be, a regular maintenance item!

Yeah, this was the beginning of the end for Mercedes :(
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:51 |

I'd be willing to bet my mom's Merc 300TD will outlast anything.

we both have friends who were gifted MLs
it's Mathias

It's like an M16 vs an AK47

lets see :P
currently there is a 2008 IS250 AWD and a 2010 A3 TDI at my parents house

Valid
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:54 |

sure. lets take something meant to be abused and haul shit to a passenger car.
at least to apples to apples man.

W123 and E34. Currently the E34 is down due to valve cover gasket failure ($45 each).

Not the same person!

You said anything American.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:57 |

Because your E320 has been chatting with my 2001 Jetta TDi. Damned expensive to maintain and keep running. It is no longer running. So much so that I've taken my daughter's 1991 Prelude as a dd. Even if it needs lots of attention before it is truly reliable.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:58 |

Yet incredibly ironic.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 21:00 |

Well it's definitely not going to be my E320 :p
I'm currently shopping for a new car since mine is becoming a basket case. I like luxury cars, and wagons, but I just wish there were more luxury wagons. At least there's the Volvo V40.
Note: I'm not looking specifically for a wagon; it's just that this E320 just happened to show up in a search for cars in my budget.

no I mean the friend I'm talking about is Mathias
His ML is cooler (by cooler, I mean it has more miles)
![]() 01/12/2015 at 21:01 |

I know what you meant :P
![]() 01/12/2015 at 21:01 |

239,000!!!!
![]() 01/12/2015 at 21:02 |
|
Oh yeah. W123's are awesome! Wow $45 is a lot for valve cover gaskets! VCG's for my ES300 are less than $20 for *both* but it is a transverse V6 so you have to replace a bunch of other gaskets, so it ends up being like $40 total.
My next car will NOT have a transverse V6!

that exists too, in the form of a mid to late 90s Explorer.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 01:08 |

So you're saying that the 93' 400E my middle boy got gifted may not be the most economical gift? (Since I'm the one that's gonna figure out the mechanicals?)
![]() 01/17/2015 at 12:14 |
|
This is true but what do you mean by "outlast"? When the reliable American car needs its most major repair that costs as much as one of the MB's 10k services?
![]() 01/27/2015 at 13:21 |
|
That's because of the power created by the German cars. You can detune a car and make it last a long longer, ie Toyota
![]() 01/27/2015 at 13:44 |
|
Even the non-powerful German cars have the same problems. And don't forget, there are lots of very powerful American cars that don't suffer that shit, either. For example, power window switches are not a regular maintenance item in most non-European cars. Honda and Toyota can make 100 hp/L NA for hundreds of thousand of trouble-free miles.
And Lucas electronics weren't installed in muscle cars, either.

I think you meant to say they will outlast an unmaintained American.
